A pastor is tasked with encouraging people’s walk with God through teaching and modelling a Christian life. A pastor also provides leadership to the congregation. We hope that the pastor exhibits the gifts of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, etc. He or she should have a deep care for the poor and marginalized. We hope he or she is gifted with working with family and children as well as having gifts in teaching and preaching.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To preach regularly; interpreting and applying biblical texts to life in the contemporary world.
  • Nurture an active, personal faith journey striving to become more Christ-like.
  • To be a student of the Scriptures and diligently study material related to the challenges of Christians in today’s world in order to relate spiritual teachings to current world events.
  • To emulate in personal matters a lifestyle which will serve as a model for the congregation.
  • To foster an environment in which the enthusiastic stewardship of time, talents, and money is practiced by all.
  • To live out a passion to reach the unchurched and marginalized in society.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ROLES

  • Teaching/Preaching: Proclaim God’s Word in order to transform lives. (The Pastor will preach approximately three Sundays a month and be accountable for resourcing when absent.)
  • Shepherding and Lay Leadership development: Lead, train, and equip the congregation through encouragement, mentoring, modeling, and the building of a unified community, and the “maturing of the saints.” (Ephesians 4:12-16)
  • Spiritual Vision and Leadership: Collaborate with RMC task forces, commissions, and Servant Leaders to lead the church in a collective and unified realization of the RMC mission.
  • Evangelism and Church Growth: Develop a vision and equipping the congregation to share the good news of Christ.

OTHER PASTORAL DUTIES:

  • Manage staff
  • Give attention to the ongoing development of the RMC ministry towards those children and young adults 0-18 years of age.
  • Ensure that there is an active, effective pastoral care ministry serving the whole church.
  • Serve as a member of Servant Leaders (RMC leadership body)
  • Oversee the evaluation & evolution of current small group ministry to become a stronger and more integral ministry.
  • Attend district, conference, and denominational meetings as appropriate
  • Coordinate covenant classes as necessary
  • Be available for marriages, funerals and dedications.
