Interfaith and Youth Work for Summer 2016

Presenting an opportunity to spend 9 weeks at the famous Chautauqua Institution in a fabulous learning experience and environment…

The Abrahamic Program for Young Adults (APYA) sponsored by the Chautauqua Department of Religion is now in its 11th Season. Emblematic of Chautauqua’s 18-year Abrahamic Program, it is led by four coordinators – this year one Jewish (male), one Christian (female), and two Muslims (one male and one female). The scheduled evening programs serve the 16-22 year-old population on the Chautauqua grounds who are there for the nine-week Season. More presence-focused than program-focused, however, the coordinators make themselves available to all the faith traditions and denominations.

The current need is for a female Christian Coordinator, who will have a rare opportunity to participate in services and in the vast array of religious, cultural, and educational experiences that the wider communities offer.

The commitment will be from June 20 – August 20. Accommodations, meals, and a stipend are provided. It is an amazing and unique opportunity – life-enhancing and changing, actually – and being at Chautauqua for a summer is the greatest gift that anyone can be offered!

For a glimpse into the program, go to http://ciweb.org/apya and visit the full Chautauqua website atwww.ciweb.org

Women applicants ages 22 – 30 should submit to Maureen Rovegno, Associate Director for Religion and Director of APYA (mrovegno@ciweb.org), a resume and a letter explaining why she is seeking the Christian Coordinator position.

Applicants must be devoted to their own faith traditions, but open and respectful of the other faith traditions with which they will be living and working. They must be prepared to model what the program exemplifies, which is genuine, caring dialogue within a lived multi-faith community. Prospective applicants can also call Maureen at 716-499-3350 (cell) for more information.
