West Branch Friends Church (Iowa Yearly Meeting) is located in West Branch, a small historic town in Iowa where Herbert Hoover was born.  The church is a diverse group of about 40 attender/members per week.

These following statements will assist you as you consider pastoring our small rural church.

• The role of the pastor in our faith and practice is one of a leader who acknowledges that while a loving God is our authority, earthly leadership and authority is shared. 
• In our church, the Monthly Meeting for Worship with attention to Business is the decision making authority. 
• Ministry and Council and the other standing committees of the church have input and make recommendations to the Monthly Meeting.
• How would you have to adjust your thinking and leadership style to work well with this more cooperative system of church decision making?
• Regarding God’s love: We truly believe that God through the Holy Spirit gives us ongoing guidance and wants the very best for us as children of God.  We also believe that God is love and that His/Her focus on us is primarily a loving one rather than a judgmental one.  
• Regarding same sex relationships: The majority of members and attenders of this church support those who come to similar realizations about their sexual orientation as the way God has made them.  Most of us would genuinely and informally welcome any LGBT folk who come to us without the expectation or judgment that their sexual orientation is a sin which would require change and forgiveness.  Most of us would affirm and welcome them.
