Greensboro Urban Ministry was founded in 1967 by representatives of several downtown congregations to provide emergency financial assistance to people in need. Throughout its forty-five year history, Greensboro Urban Ministry has worked with the community to meet the needs of the most vulnerable and often forgotten citizens. Today, Urban Ministry continues its mission to express the love of God to people in need through practical action in the Greater Greensboro area by offering emergency financial assistance, food assistance, emergency and transitional shelter, and rapid re-housing. This organization is currently operating with an annual budget of $4.9 Million and a staff of 70 employees.

Executive Director
The Executive Director is responsible for overall leadership and management of the organization, including promoting the mission, developing the strategic plan with the board, setting clear expectations, implementing best practices and managing the leadership team. This role will build and maintain strong relationships within the faith based community, community leaders, and appropriate donors on behalf of the organization. It will be important for this individual to communicate effectively internally and externally while representing the organization publically. The Executive Director will be able to fund raise, leverage board relationships to increase giving, as well as cultivate and steward donors. The leader of GUM will need to understand homelessness and issues prevalent to the underserved. Knowledge of the Housing First Model and strategies to make appropriate transitions with the changing landscape will be beneficial.

Requirements:

- Master’s degree preferred, a focus in divinity a plus
- Experience leading a non-profit organization of similar size is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of the industry and experience with the under served strongly preferred
- Experience with fundraising
- Effective and comfortable speaking in public and representing an organization to the community
- Strong networking skills and ability to collaborate with a vast group of people
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to interact with diverse groups of people and facilitate discussions to increase positive impact on the under served
