Director of Education
The Director of Education at West Richmond Friends in Richmond, Indiana is a parttime, 12 month, “pilot” position beginning in summer 2016. The Director will serve 1015 hours weekly, compensation negotiable depending upon qualifications. Two weeks paid vacation will be included and scheduled at a mutually agreed upon by the Director of Education and the Meeting’s Education Committee. Applications will be reviewed beginning in early August and continue until the position is filled.
The Director of Education will:
- develop a Religious Education program at WRF that nurtures and instills Quaker values and teaches Quaker faith and practice
- recruit, train and support/supervise
- Sunday School instructors for children
- Childcare providers for worship time
- Quaker Kids teacher for Monthly Meeting Sundays
- recruit, train and support/supervise
- Teach Sunday School course(s) for children when interested or needed
- Work with Education Committee (possibly convene) to develop Meeting wide programming connecting the multiple generations at WRF
- Cultivate new teachers, including potential volunteers from the meetingbuilding relationships among adults in the meeting towards supporting the presence and involvement of young people
- Invest in relationships with parents, children and teachers
- Inspire and develop a WRF education volunteer pool, and hire others for programming as needed and appropriate
- Plan and implement Christmas Program, Young People's Sunday, Fiesta Sunday
- Communicate and collaborate with the Guild of Friends and Light Seekers about shared and complementary programming (youth groups for broader local Friends community)
- Work with meeting pastor(s) and committees to support children’s active presence at WRF
- report to the Meeting's Supervisory Committee
Responsibilities may also include, depending upon candidate’s interests and qualifications:
- Occasionally deliver Children’s Messages in worship, and work with Worship Committee to identify Meeting guidelines for Children’s Messages
- Work with Worship Committee to incorporate children more fully into worship
The successful candidate should:
- have a minimum of a college degree
- demonstrate strong familiarity with the Religious Society of Friends
- have professional experience working with children
- work collaboratively with adults
- have supervisory experience
