Richmond Friends School (RFS) seeks a dynamic, innovative educator to teach 3rd and 4th grade students in a multiage classroom. An ideal applicant will embrace the opportunity to create his/her own curriculum with Indiana standards as the minimum expectation. This position is an opportunity to engage with a small group of eager learners in a school that values the individual gifts of its students. RFS endeavors to educate the whole child, with attention to the academic, social and physical development of every student.

An independent Pre K-8th grade school affiliated with the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), RFS is known for its academic excellence and its commitments to experiential, collaborative learning; peace and social justice; and environmental sustainability. The school offers multiage classes of about 15 students, an expectation of learning opportunities outside the classroom, and a community of families that is exceptionally committed to and involved in the flourishing of the school. Among the school’s distinctions is its small size, its spirit of community, and its collaborative approach to education. Teachers are welcomed and expected to share in decision-making about the school in a mutually supportive atmosphere with faculty, staff, parents and board members.

Teachers work ten months of the year, 8:00 a.m. -3:15 p.m. M-F, with an hour each day for lunch and preparation. The school provides a salary and benefits. On-going professional development is both expected and supported by the school.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree and successful experience developing lesson plans and working with elementary school age children and in a classroom setting. Teacher certification and at least a year as a lead teacher in an independent or public school classroom are desirable. An understanding and appreciation of a Quaker education and independent schools will also be helpful.

To apply, send a cover letter outlining your educational philosophy and experience, a resume, and names and contact information for three references to the address below. Review of applications will begin June 11, 2018 and will continue until the position is filled.
